During the 15th ChinaJoy, China’s largest gaming and digital entertainment exhibition, Polish developers presented their products to Asian gamers. It was the first such extensive presentation of the Polish video game industry behind the Great Wall.
The joint Polish stand at the ChinaJoy was organised as the result of collaboration between the Indie Games Poland Foundation, the Adam Mickiewicz Institute and the Polish Institute in Beijing. In the recruitment process the representatives of the three organisers selected 16 games showcased at the stand. Chinese gamers, who had previously grown fond of the award-winning game This War of Mine developed and published by 11 bit studios, had a chance to enjoy the same developer’s latest production Frostpunk featured among other games at the Polish stand.
Virtual Reality (VR) games, such as Regenesis Arcade by HyperVR studio allowing players to immerse in a futuristic world ruled by different robot races, attracted huge interest of the exhibition visitors.
The Polish stand at the ChinaJoy also provided an opportunity to present the achievements of smaller game development companies (gamedev), such as the three-person WarSaw studio, who showcased their dark fairy tale platform game Dream Alone published by Fat Dog Games.
Another part of the project was an industry event titled Polish Games – Creative Poland. Poland Meets China organised by the Polish Institute in Beijing, the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Shanghai, the Indie Games Poland Foundation and the China Indie Games Association. The participants could see the exhibition Digital Dreamers presenting the achievements of the Polish video game industry.
During the event, Indie Games Poland Foundation and China Indie Game Alliance signed memorandum of understanding that postulates knowledge and experience exchange as well as support in promoting Chinese and Polish games in Polish and Chinese market. The Deputy Minister of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland Mr. Paweł Lewandowski was present at the signing at the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Shanghai.
Next step of the cooperation will be a visit of Chinese delegation at Poznań Game Arena and Chinese stand during the event in Poznań. Another step will be yet another opportunity for the Polish game developers to present their works in Shanghai this year.
It is worth mentioning that the stand organised on the initiative of the Indie Games Poland Foundation was not the only Polish element at the 15th ChinaJoy. CD Projekt RED, a developer best known for their iconic The Witcher game series, was also present at the show in Shanghai showcasing their new production Gwent: The Witcher Card Game.
