The Theatre of One Poem group from Opole presents a performance about choices as part of the 'Everybody Dance Now Festival' in Wolverhampton, UK
What drives us to change? "Ticket to the Moon" is a performance about choices. What determines them? Is it culture and tradition? Is it inbuilt morality? Or could it be just a few buttons, childhood pictures, the smell of bread or a taste of sauerkraut?
The theatre group devises their own unique work using physical theatre without language.
Theatre of One Poem is a young theatre group founded in 1991 in Opole by Krzysztof Zylinski. It was built on the idea that creation of a performance based on a short text or poem is a good means of expression.
As their name suggests their work is quite poetical, using physical theatre which is close to dance in its repetitive rhythms.
The Theatre of One Poem is based in the Youth Centre in Opole. They have performed all over the world at festivals in countries such as Canada, Belgium, Korea, Czech, Slovenia, Austria and Macedonia.
Our work is poetry expressed in form and meaning. We attempt to catch reality 'in the flash of lightening' whether the initial source was a poem, a painting or our own reflections. We use symbols, archetypes, metaphors, we break the plot, make our performances multi-layered, full of pictures and meanings. Our performances prompt questions and ideas; they do not give answers. Theatre of One Poem is for people who understand that although man desires truth, we only find uncertainty.
- Krzysztof Zylinski.
