The evening’s soloist is violinist Maria Machowska. The evening’s programme included Karol Szymanowski’s Second Violin Concerto Op. 61, Beethoven’s Third Symphony, and the overture from Mozart’s “Don Giovanni”.
Maksymiuk is a Polish composer who graduated from the Warsaw Conservatory. Between 1975 and 1975, he became the Principal Conductor for the Polish National Radio Orchestra and, in 1993, Maksymiuk took the post of principal conductor for the Krakow Philharmonic. Between 1983-1993, the Pole was the Chief Conductor for the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and has guest conducted for many orchestras around the world.
The evening’s soloist, Maria Machowska, has been playing since six years of age and has been studying under Konstanty Andrzej Kulka at the Warsaw Academy of Music. As well, the 24 year old has taken master classes in Germany, at the Mount Royal College in Calgary, at the “Mozarteum” Internationale Sommerakademie in Salzburg and took part in the Young Artists International Festival in LA. Machowska has played all over Europe as well as in Israel, the US and Canada. Her first ever public performance was in 1995 in the Vatican when, at eight years old, she played for Pope John Paul II.
