This December a concert of music from Polish video games will be held in Shanghai. The prestigious Shanghai Oriental Arts Center (ShOAC) will host Ningbo Symphony Orchestra under the baton of maestro Robert Kurdybacha and Polish bands: Percival, Atom String Quartet and guest musicians. The music will be accompanied by footage from featured video games displayed on large screens.
The event is a unique opportunity to present the achievements of the Polish game development industry in an attractive form. It is worth mentioning that Polish video games have been consistently promoted in Shanghai for several years. Polish developers presented their productions at China’s largest industry fair ChinaJoy in 2017 and 2018, while the Indie Games Poland Foundation and China India Game Alliance signed a memorandum of understanding in 2017, under which Polish and Chinese companies mutually support the promotion of games from the partner country in their homelands.
The concert presenting music from the most popular Polish games will consist of three parts. The first one will include compositions from the games Ancestors: Legacy (Destructive Creations), The Vanishing of Ethan Carter (The Astronauts), Driftland: The Magic Revival (STARDRIFTERS) and My Brother Rabbit (Artifex Mundi). The second and third part will feature selected pieces from the games Frostpunk (11bit studios) and Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (CD Projekt RED). The bands Atom String Quartet and Percival, who will perform in Shanghai, have participated in creating original soundtracks for the two later titles.
The Chinese audience at the ShOAC will also have the opportunity to see an exhibition of graphics by an esteemed concept artist Grzegorz Przybyś.
The project has been initiated by the Polish Institute in Beijing, while the event’s producer on the Polish side is Game Music Foundation. The Chinese partner is China Indie Game Alliance (CIGA). The event has been organised with the support of the Adam Mickiewicz Institute.
