In August and September 2020, get ready for four weekends of Polish Jazz and Polish-Israeli jazz collaborations during the Polish Jazz Festival in Tel Aviv! The festival is organised by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute in Warsaw, the Polish Institute in Tel Aviv, and the Israeli Jazz Fun Club.
The Polish Jazz Festival in Tel Aviv will take place over four weekends from 27th August to 17th September 2020. Under the artistic direction of Barak Weiss, artistic director of the Tel Aviv Jazz Festival & Israel International Showcase for Jazz and Worldwide Music, the festival will include live performances, meetings with artists, lectures on music, the history of Polish jazz and more. All of this will be streamed live on Culture.pl's Facebook page.
The festival will include concerts by some of the leading Polish jazz ensembles, the Marcin Wasilewski Trio, the Kuba Więcek Trio, O.N.E., and four performances by Israeli musicians which will play jazz arrangements of music by the great Polish composer, Frederic Chopin, which were written especially for the festival. The line up includes three Polish ensembles: the Marcin Wasilewski Trio, the Kuba Więcek Trio, O.N.E., as well as Israeli musicians Tom Oren, Hila Kulik and Erez Bernoi, the Guy Mintos Trio and the trio of Uriel Herman-Maya Belzitzman-Ehud Aton.
Since the late 1950s, when jazz in Poland was a symbol of the desire for freedom from the communist regime, to this day, Poland has been one of the leading countries on the global jazz scene. Despite this, jazz enthusiasts in Israel have hardly been exposed to Polish jazz. This festival is an excellent opportunity to remedy that.
