Polish Animations Win at Film Festival in Annecy
Three Polish productions, "Świteź" by Kamil Polak, "Paths of Hate" by Damian Newow and "Maska" by the Quay Brothers' were honoured at the 2011 Festival in France
"Świteź" was awarded the "Jean-Luc Xiberras" debut film award. The film is an adaptation of the romantic ballad written by Adam Mickiewicz of the same title directed by Kamil Polak. "Paths of Hate" directed by Damian Newow received the Special Distinction award. "Maska", the latest film by the Quay Brothers', received the Sacem Award for original music (the score was composed by Grammy award-winner Krzysztof Penderecki). The film is an adaptation of the prose work written by Stanisław Lem.
The jury named the winners during the closing ceremony of the 35th Annecy International Animation Film Festival on June 11, 2011. Seven animation film productions from Poland competed with forty-two short films in the main competition programme. "Świteź" is a Polish-Canadian-Swiss-French-Danish co-production, "Paths of Hate" is produced by the award-winning Platige Image studio in Warsaw and "Maska" by the Quay Brothers' is produced in the studio Se-ma-for Film Production in Łódż and co-produced by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute.
The latest Animation Film Festival in Annecy took off to a promising start, featuring over 500 films from 70 countries, exhibitions and conferences, including exclusive screenings of studio short films. The festival is the most important and one of the oldest festivals in Europe focusing entirely on animated production.
