In 2016 the Yebisu International Festival for Art & Alternative Visions invited Polish artist Piotr Bosacki, whose art is well known and acclaimed in Japan.
The audience of the festival consist mostly of young people interested in art, new media and new technologies. Every year the festival organizes in Tokyo's Ebisu district numerous exhibitions, performances, lectures and other events attracting crowds of spectators.
The starting point for this 8th Yebisu International Festival for Art & Alternative Visions was the concept of contemporary society as a Gadren that, like the "Garden in Movement" conceived by french philosopher and gardener Gilles Clement, changes day by day. Through various artistic works on film, media expression etc., not only nature in a literal sense, but the things that ought to be considered "contemporary nature" – i.e. human-produced technology, rapidly-changing urban environments and the invisible network society – manifested themselves as contemporary visions.
The picture of contemporary world was generated together with nature rather than predominantly with man. With the "Garden in Movement" concept providing new interpretations of the garden, this festival traversed the contemporary world of images while looking in the direction of the natural world that surrounds us.
Four works by Piotr Bosacki were presented at the main exhibition in Garden Hall. It was Self-evident Things (2013), Labirynth Film (2014), Acetone (2014) and Tablet (2014). Fans of Bosacki had the opportunity to take part in a special meeting with the artist, which took place at 13:45 on the 14th of February in Yebisu Garden Place.
