Leto’s participation in the fair is especially exciting, as it is one of the 16 international galleries selected for the ‘First’ section, featuring first-time exhibitors at this event. The gallery has been recommended by three members of the special committee: Daria De Beauvais (curator at the Palais de Tokyo, Paris), Katarina Gregos (curator and Artistic Director of Art Brussels), and Nathalie Hartjes (coordinator of the Curatorial Programme at de Appel, Amsterdam).
Leto will present an exhibition responding to the theme of an aesthetic experience in the era of mechanical reproduction with works by artists whose oeuvre can be described as “primary”. The curator of the exhibition, Marta Kołakowska, aims to present this notion as referring to the explorations of authentic forms of artistic activity which have the potential to awaken uncontrolled reactions in viewers and creators alike. The show will thus juxtapose works by the Paris-based Angelika Markul, who explores modern forms of demonism in her uncanny installations, Konrad Smoleński, who bombards his surrounding with drilling sounds, not giving the audience a chance to remain indifferent, and Radek Szlaga, who aims to apply pure visual language in his paintings, with the intention of communicating a genuine response to the surrounding world.
Leto Gallery’s participation in the 2014 Art Brussels fair has been supported by Culture.pl.
