Jerzy Srokowski (1910-1975) is a Polish illustrator of children's books who is most well known for Janusz Korczak's King Matt the First , Peter Pan and Henryk Sienkiewicz
's In Desert and Wilderness, creating original characters, full of volatile poetics and wondrous lyricism.
His drawings are characterised by a stylistic individuality; simple forms overflowing with emotions, adjusted to a young viewer's sensitivity and perception. These illustrations have been enjoyed by many generations of readers.
The exhibition inaugurates the 35th anniversary of the Gallery of Graphics and Poster in Warsaw. It also comprises the latest installment in the Masters of Illustration series devoted to the most famous Polish children book illustrators.
The exhibition opens on February 19 and runs through March 14, 2011.
