Polish director Jerzy Skolimowski was awarded the main prize in the Polish Film category at the 11th edition of the Sopot Film Festival. This year's festival ties in with the Polish Presidency, featuring the most interesting European films of the past decade
Jerzy Skolimowski's 2010 film, "Essential Killing", which stars Vincent Gallo, took home the main prize in the Polish film category at this year's Sopot Film Festival.
New productions which have not been officially released were also on the programme, alongside films from partner festivals in Great Britain, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary. Film workshops with the participation of European filmmakers, screenings of silent films, outdoor events on the beach, exhibitions and video art presentations in urban space.
The main sections of the festival spanned:
SPECTRUM
World cinema series, featuring the most interesting films presented at the most important film festivals in a given year.
SPECTRUM DOC
World documentary series, featuring nominees for Academy Awards and films awarded at the most important film festivals.
EUROPA EUROPA 2011
The most significant, most interesting and controversial European films of the past decade, awarded with the European Film Award – the most prestigious award granted to European films. In this section, feature films, animated films and documentaries will be presented.
FOCUS ON ANIMATION
Series of full-length animated films of the past decade, featuring classics and new films from the masters of animation.
OUTDOOR CINEMA
Screenings at the seashore. Indepdent and arthouse cinema.
