Martyrs was the first show directed by Grzegorz Jarzyna staged in China. It was presented to the Chinese audience four times on stages of the Tianjin Grand Theatre and the Harbin Grand Theatre.
Performance of the TR Warszawa was invited to China by the director of Tianjin Grand Theatre during his visit at the Divine Comedy International Theatre Festival held in Kraków in 2015. As a result, in June 2016, Grzegorz Jarzyna and the TR Warszawa company during their first visit in China presented the performance based on Marius von Meyenburg's plays, attempting to answer the question what is it that modern Europe fears and to analyze the mechanisms underlying the fanaticism confronting the modern world. Four stagings of Martyrs were part of the Polish Theatre Season, the largest ever presentation of Polish theatre in China, taking place throughout 2016. The season's programme includes shows directed by leading Polish dramatic theatre directors, such as Krystian Lupa, Krzysztof Warlikowski, Grzegorz Jarzyna, Jan Klata, Łukasz Twarkowski, Paweł Passini and Paul Bargetto, as well as the presentation of Polish contemporary opera. The performances are staged at the Tianjin Grand Theatre, Harbin Grand Theatre, Wuzhen Theatre Festival and at the Beijing People's Art Theatre.
