Event schedule:
AUGUST - SEPTEMBER
19th and 20th August 2015, 20:00
A tour of the exhibition led by Michał Kobiałka and Ludmiła Ryba
A walk through the exhibition space packed with Kantor's machines and objects. The accompanying commentary by Michał Kobiałka and Ludmiła Ryba will be about both the functions of these objects and Tadeusz Kantor's manifestos and texts connected to them.
A series of lectures on Kantor given by Michał Kobiałka:
20th August 2015, 15:00 - 17:00
Objetos e Máquinas de Tadeusz Kantor [“Tadeusz Kantor's Objects and Machines”]
A lecture focused on Kantor's understanding of space and objects according to his theoretical texts and works from The Return of Odysseus (1944) to Today Is My Birthday (1990). The emphasis will be placed on the expansion of Kantor's thought marked by experiments such as The Autonomous Theatre, The Informal Theatre, The Zero Theatre, The Theatre of Events, and The Theatre of Death.
21st August 2015, 15.00 - 17:00
Sobre Memória e História: O Teatro da Minima Moralia de Tadeusz Kantor [“Of Memory and History: Tadeusz Kantor’s Theatre of Minima Moralia”]
Kantor added form to the praxis of performance that undermined the traditional way of thinking about memory and history as seen through the lens of mnemonic techniques. To show these ideas, Kobiałka tries to examine changes in Kantor's thinking about memory, mnemonic techniques and history as presented in The Dead Class (1975), Wielopole, Wielopole (1980), Let the Artists Die (1985), and I Shall Never Return (1989).
22nd August 2015, 15:00 - 17:00
O Teatro de Tadeusz Kantor: Notas sobre o Estilo Tardio [“Tadeusz Kantors's Theatre: Notes on Late Style”]
Kantor's essay “My Meetings with Death” professes his poetical delight about meetings with death and its representations, be they symbolic, metaphorical, or allegorical, by recalling his childhood, his World War II experiences, and his theatrical experimentation period. Both Kantor's personal stories and constant presence of death bring to mind internal conflicts and complexity in the term of “Late Style”, defined by Theodor W. Adorno in his 1937 essay about Beethoven, and later redefined by Edward Said shortly before his death in 2003. The lecture starts by defining “Late Style” according to Adorno and Said, and ends up discussing Kantor's very last work “Today Is My Birthday” (1990).
20th to 22nd August 2015, on the 2nd floor stage of the exhibition area
Almanaquy
Almanaquy Antropofágico [“Anthropogenic Almanac”] has elements connecting theoretical reflection with on-stage abstraction during Kobiałka's lectures. This method was examined by the Theatre Company Cia. Grupo Antropofágica during previous creative processes where it presented itself as a tool enabling deconstruction of content and concept, followed by innovative reorganisation on stage.
19th August to 14th November 2015, Monday to Friday at 12:00, 16:00, 19:00, and Saturdays at 11:00 and 15:00.
Fantasmas [“Phantoms”] – Cia. Grupo Antropofágica
Like ghosts materialising into the exhibition space, performers will interact with works, machines and objects and try to fill the gap between the matter and the message it carried during its “life”.
This “autopsy machine” was created as a result of co-operation between Ludmiła Ryba (based on her experience as an actress in Kantor's theatre and theatrical workshops), Tiago Vasconselos from the Theatre Company Cia. Grupo Antropofágica, Cia's actors, and Grupo Antropfágica e CPT/Sesc (“The Sesc Centre for Theatrical Research”).

31st August to 5th September 2015, Thursday & Friday from 11:30 to 21:30, Saturday from 10:00 to 18:30, stage on the 2nd floor
Como pó e Cinzas [“Nothing but Dust and Ashes”] – Hamedi Taheri Bn Theatre (Iran)
The name is a reference to Abraham in Genesis (“I am nothing but dust and ashes”) and Job (“God has cast me into the mire, and I have become like dust and ashes”). Como pó e Cinzas asks a question about how theatre can be a witness of its own disappearance. The play is, as Kantor once said, like ''the sky reflected in a piece of broken mirror'', because it refers to a play, Dom Jest w Naszej Przeszłości [“The House is in Our Past], that was never performed because one of the actors died. It shows an inarticulate and completely lonely man who lives in a pool full of and a hearing on a young girl who has nothing to say.

23rd to 25th September 2015, Wednesday & Thursday, Friday at 21:00, Saturday at 17:00, stage on the 2nd floor
Outra Lição de Anatomia [“Another Anatomy Lesson”] – Daniel Moutinho (Portugal)
Portuguese artist Daniel Moutinho rereads the performance “An Anatomy Lesson According to Rembrandt”. In ''Another Anatomy Lesson'', the order of sections is reversed. While adding in photographs, documents and objects, the artist examines and tests the abilities of the body: body as matter, body as manifesto, body as machine, the artist's body, body as museum, etc.

Engrenagem: Corpo [“Transmission: Body”] – Christine Greiner (Brazil) and Daniel Moutinho (Portugal)
Christine Greiner and Daniel Moutinho talk with the audience about body functionality in performances organised by Tadeusz Kantor, especially “Emballage” (1966), “An Anatomy Lesson According to Rembrandt” (1968) and “A Conversation with a Rhinoceros” (1968). Archive materials from these performances are part of the Tadeusz Kantor Machine exhibition.
