A study of the distortions corresponding to an aquatic effect, a conflict between temporality and eternity, drying laundary, a broken cup and the face of a beautiful woman seen by a diver - are only a few of the moving images from the Polish animations taking part in the Annecy International Animation Film Festival
A hand drawn frame by frame - markers on paper video clip to the moody music of We Cut Corners, Pirate's Life is part of the official selection at Annecy and competes for Best Videoclip. The images are a creation of the imagination driven by the music. The 2m27s long animation from 2011 comes form Katarzyna Kijek and Przemysław Adamski, the authors of the critically acclaimed short Noise.
Seven other shorts are shown outside of the competition. Izabela Bartosik-Burkhardt's 2011 Polish-French co-production is a 10 minute long Agnieszka showing the emotional confinement of a little girl. The short was made from a drawings on paper, computer 2D and painting on glass. Andrzej Gosieniecki's The Firebird is a colourful interpretation of Igor Stravinsky's music using play doh. The short is from 2011 and is 7min19s long. In Artur Kordasa's 6min24s long Rondo, a man embarks on a voyage in the desert. The short uses 3D computer animation. Agata Gorządek's 10min56s long The Diver using 2D computer animation presents the underwater world and the surface as seen by the diver.
Aleksander Korejwo's Jubilee Concerto is a 14min18s long animates two Chopic pieces: one evoking his childhood, the other showing the interior struggle between the man and the composer. Piotr Kamler's Continu-discontinu 2012 is a conflict between temporality and eternity to the music of Marina Marais and Sainte Colombe. Finally, Marcin Janiec's The Game shows a chess match taking place somewhere between life and death. The stake is high - a gateway to the world of living.
Anca Damian's award winning Polish - Romanian co-production Crulic - The Path to Beyond, the story of an individual's solitude in the face of the system competes for Best Full Length Animation.
Running since 1960, the Annecy International Animation Film Festival is a competition between cartoon films of various techniques (animated drawings, cut out papers, modelling clay, etc).
