Piotr Wojtasik – trumpeter and composer, born in 1964 in Wrocław. His musical career began while still at the Academy of Music in Katowice and the first recording he made was with the band New Presentation, which debuted at the Jazz Jamboree Festival in 1988.
In the late 80’s Wojtasik collaborated with Young Power, one of the most revolutionary bands of its time. Then, he recorded his first album featuring the leading figures of Polish jazz: Jan Ptaszyn Wróblewski, Wojciech Niedziela, Andrzej Cudzich and Eryk Kulm. His collaborations have also included Tomasz Szukalski, Michał Miśkiewicz, Krzysztof Popek, Jacek Niedziela, Maciej Sikała, Adam Kowalewski, Henryk Miśkiewicz and Andrzej Jagodziński. Later on Wojtasik worked with jazz icons from the US, like Dave Liebmann, Buster Williams, Ben Riley, Reggie Workmann, Vincent Herling, Gary Bartz, Wayne Dockery or Wes McCraven.
His long-term musical friendship with the legendary tenor saxophonist Billy Harper brought numerous common concerts and recordings, both in Wojtasik’s and Harper’s bands.
For over two decades of his artistic work, Wojtasik has become one of the most esteemed trumpeters and band leaders of the middle generation, winning prestigious Jazz Forum polls and nominations to the Fryderyk Music Award. He is also an exceptionally valued lecturer, who has contributed to raising the level of teaching within the last two decades.
Wojtasik’s latest project is the quartet with excellent Hungarian tenor saxophonist Viktor Toth, double bassist Michał Barański and drummer John Betsch.
