The Modern Art Museum in Warsaw will make photographs from the Tadeusz Rolke collection available at artmuseum.pl from 31st March, 2014. An initial set of four thousand photographs are already at the Internet Artists Archive.
Born in 1929, Tadeusz Rolke is a legend of Polish photography. He has worked as a portraitist and reporter since the mid 50s. His photographs have been published in magazines including "Stolica", "Polska", "Ty i Ja", "Die Zeit", "Stern", "Der Spiegel" and "Art". The photographer documented visual artists and events in Poland and abroad. During the 70s he lived in exile in West Germany, and returned to Warsaw in 1980, where he has lived and worked since. In the 90s he briefly worked with "Gazeta Wyborcza", one of the main daily papers in Poland, and the publisher of Agora – which bought the archive photographs from the artist.
On April 4th at 6pm, the auditorium of the Modern Art Museum will host a meeting with Tadeusz Rolke, during which the artist will talk about the circumstances of creating the 30 most iconic photographs of his career. The next archived part of Rolke photographs will be available to see from 24th May 2014, the 85th birthday of the artist.
The aim of the web archives created by the museum is to facilitate the research and popularization of the most interesting art phenomena created after 1945. At the artmuseum.pl the works of Alina Szapocznikow, Eustachy Kossakowski and Grzegorz Kowalski are available to admire.
