Poland in Lonely Planet’s Top 10 Countries to Visit in 2016
The internationally-respected travel publisher has placed Poland at number 7 in its list, citing Wrocław and Kraków as major hotspots for the year ahead.
Lonely Planet makes the world’s best-selling travel guides and has been a trusted information source for intrepid travellers for decades. Their annual list of top 10 countries to visit is based around their intimate knowledge of travel trends and followed by millions.
Placing Poland at 7th place on their list for 2016, Lonely Planet writes:
Recession-defying Poland has superpowers – while the rest of Europe descended into the doldrums, visitor numbers here climbed and there’s no end to the boom in sight as Wrocław prepares for a stint as European Capital of Culture 2016. Kraków will have a turn in the limelight too when the Pope arrives to celebrate World Youth Day, and new air routes to Kraków, Szczecin, Katowice, and Gdańsk means this is a destination on the rise.
Wrocław, the 2016 European Capital of Culture 2016 (ECC), plans to offer over a thousand different cultural events in various fields of art: architecture, film, music, visual art, theatre, performance and opera. The programme was announced on 19 June at a press conference in Wrocław's Stadion Miejski. In 2016, Wrocław will also be the World Book Capital City of UNESCO.
World Youth Day 2016 is in fact a whole week of events, held from 25th to 31st July in Kraków. The celebration of Pope Francis’ arrival will be held on Thursday 28th July, and the pontiff will participate in further events until the end of the week.
