The open call for the ninth edition of the ShowOFF Section at Krakow Photomonth Festival has begun and submissions, including from international applicants, can be made until 15th January 2017. This year is dedicated to debuting artists.
ShowOFF is one of the most important parts of the Kraków Photomonth programme, and for nine years has ensured wide exposure to the most interesting young artists in Poland and Europe. Aga Dwernicka, chairwoman of the Foundation for Visual Arts and director of Krakow Photomonth stresses:
We can see this based on the work of Weronika Gęsicka and Michał Siarek, for example. The presentation of their projects at the 2016 festival significantly contributed to their growing recognition on the international photography scene. These successes are what please us most, because they confirm our conviction that we are working in the right direction, and demonstrate the importance of the competition.
The curators of ShowOFF 2017 are Krzysztof Pijarski, Szymon Rogiński, Katarzyna Sagatowska, and Salvatore Vitale. Every curator will choose two projects from the submissions, and will then help the winner work on its final form. Katarzyna Sagatowska, one of the curators of ShowOFF 2017 says:
I’m looking for honest tales, where the content and the form create a clear totality.
All those interested in taking part in the competition can register free of charge at www.picter.com. The deadline for submitting work is midnight on 15th January 2017. Submissions to the competition can be photographs and/or multimedia projects, whether finished or in progress. Only one project can be submitted, with a maximum of twenty photographs. There are no restrictions in terms of photography techniques or video materials.
The jury sessions will be held on 28th January 28 2017. We will learn the results on 1st February. Projects by the winning eight artists will be presented at a collective exhibition during the 15th edition of Krakow Photomonth (19th May – 18th June 2017).
