Kapela Maliszów, a Polish family folk band that plays original music inspired by traditional tunes, will perform at the 2015 WOMAD Festival, a music event that presents the diversity of world culture.
The organizers of WOMAD claim that this British festival is “a feast of culture”. WOMAD – the World of Music, Arts and Dance runs from 24-26 July 2015 in Charlton Park, Malmesbury, England. There are multiple events accompanying the festival, including a food fair at the Global Market, vintage rides at Carter’s Original Steam Fair and cooking shows on the Taste the World stage.

Kapela Maliszów will perform in the music section, alongside such world-renowned musicians as De La Soul and Ghostpoet, and will represent the Polish folk music tradition that is praised by the festival organizers for its attachment to family values and the uniqueness of its sound:
"There’s a strong tradition – particularly in folk music circles – of family bands, of generations coming together to make music, of musicians breeding musicians breeding musicians. From these shores, it’s probably the Waterson/Carthy dynasty that’s the most conspicuous. While not quite at that level yet, Kapela Maliszow show that the musically gifted are also pre-destined to join the family firm over in southern Poland. Led by father Jan, the Malisz clan offer clear evidence that the musical genes are making their way down the family tree; his multi-instrumentalist teenage offspring show technique and feel that belies their comparatively tender years. As the saying goes, the family that plays together, stays together".
– reads the festival introduction to the band’s work.
The uncommon tunes of the Polish music group result from the varied inspirations of the band members:
"Kapela Maliszów draws inspiration from the traditional music of the Carpathian peoples. It also reaches for the Balkan traditions (from Romania, Serbia, Macedonia). More recently, the band turned to the music of its original region – the border of Beskids and Pogórze – and started focusing on traditional dances and ditties from the Gorlice county".
– they write about themselves on their Soundcloud page.
Kapela Maliszów have already performed at numerous music festivals, including Lviv Flugers, Karpaty OFFer in Nowy Sącz, and Cepeliada in Kraków, and have won several awards. In 2010, the band released their first album, Lot nad Karpatami. Their WOMAD performance is scheduled for the second day of festival on the BBC Radio 3 Charlie Gillet Stage. Kapela Maliszów will represent the diversity of world music along with Nazim Ziryab (Algieria/UK), Winston McAnuff & Fixi (Jamaica/France), Ibeyi (France/Cuba), Cambodian Space Project (Cambodia/Australia/France).
