Wojtek Mazolewski, Tamar Osborn and Edward Wakili-Hick will appear together in a joint concert as part of 'Get Your Jazz Together', an initiative from the Adam Mickiewicz Institute. The artists will meet on Saturday 19th September 2020 on the stage of the legendary Warsaw club SPATiF. A special radio show hosted by the DJ and music journalist Pete On the Corner, featuring a recording of the concert, will air on Wednesday 23rd September on Worldwide FM.
We're reaching out to the international jazz audience, opening up to its needs and searching for new communication and publicity channels. Thanks to live streaming, audiences all over the world could take part in the recent Polish Jazz Festival in Tel Aviv organised by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute. The same thing will happen with Get Your Jazz Together. Anyone will be able to hear the concert at SPATiF in Warsaw on Worldwide FM.
Barbara Schabowska, director of the Adam Mickiewicz Institute
The artists will be playing together for the first time. This formula makes room for creative experimentation whose results audiences will see and hear during a special programme on Worldwide FM Internet radio. The station was created in London by Gilles Peterson, known from BBC Radio London, and by the co-founder of the famous music platform Boiler Room, Thristian Richards. Worldwide FM has gained global renown thanks to Peterson’s and Richards’ programming featuring a select cast of the best DJs and selectors from five continents. Right after its premiere, the station went on tour, broadcasting in Europe, the United States and Asia, with pop-ups in Amsterdam, Los Angeles, Marseilles, Milan, Paris and Tokyo.
The Get Your Jazz Together concert on Saturday will be a meeting of artists representing the London and the Tri-city scene: co-creator of yassu Wojtek Mazolewski, saxophonist and leader of the Collocutor Tamar Osborn, and Edward Wakili-Hick, who plays percussion in many groups such as Shabaki Hutchings’s Songs of Kemet.
Translating Someone’s Story Into Music: An Interview With Kuba Więcek
We need an opening. An eye to the world. A return to close relationships beyond real and mental boundaries and limitations. Even a signal that we can still build a better tomorrow together. We need new experiences and inspirations. The experiences of recent months force us to reflect and redefine the way we've been acting. Culture has a pioneering role to play – to tame fears and overcome fear, and above all, create a new energy to act. I hope that our intercultural connections, searching and cooperation will be a positive signal and inspiration to fight for a better world for everyone.
