The models of functioning, partnership and variety of artistic initiatives in the most important and one of the most rapidly developing artistic centres in western Europe will be under discussion. Furthermore, lecturers will show ways of acquiring funds for activities from cultural institutions in the German capital city.
In honour of the occasion, representatives of culture institutions such as Berlinishe Galerie, Eigen + Art, owners of collections (Art Collection Telekom) and organisers of artistic events (Berlin Biennale) have been invited to take part in the debate. Discussion will be led by Mareike Dittmer, co-publisher of Frieze magazine.
Participants on the panel:
Gabriele Horn – she began her work as a curator in 1982. Since 2004, she has worked as the head manager of the KW Institute for Contemporary Art in Berlin. Horn is a one of the Berlin Biennale founders and is its director.
Thomas Köhler – head manager of Berlinishe Galerie: Museum für Moderne Kunst, an institution with a rich collection of 20th and 21st century artworks.
Hili Perlson – journalist and art critic, co-founder of online magazine META. She collaborates with Artforum, the New York Times and artnet.com.
Rainald Schumacher – Curatorial advisor for Art Collection Telekom, an art collection from Central and Eastern Europe founded in 2010.
Anne Schwanz – curator of one of the most dynamic galleries in Germany: Eigen + Art. Since 2015, she has been one of the decision makers at the Eigen + Art Lab programme, a space dedicated to the experimental practices of young Berlin artists.
Moderator:
Mareike Dittmer – associate publisher of Frieze magazine, where she has been working since 1999. She graduated from the Faculty of Cultural Studies and Communication at the Univesität der Künste in Berlin. Since 2010, Dittmer has been a member of the mono.kultur magazine team. She is one of the 9th Futurological Congress presidents.
