Celebrating the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Poland and Korea, jazz musicians from both countries will present their joint project in Warsaw.
Special concert titled KOsmo-POLityczny with the participation of Sunjae Lee Quartet from Korea and Rafał Sarnecki Quintet from Poland will be held on 31st March 2019 at PROM Kultury Saska Kępa. The event, co-hosted by the Korean Cultural Centre in Poland and PROM Kultury Saska Kępa, will feature both bands’ jam session along with 2 sets of their original repertoires.
Sunjae Lee Quartet, led by saxophonist Sunjae Lee, first came into the spotlight on the Korean jazz scene in 2016 when they won the Jarasum International Jazz Festival Concours' Grand Prize and Best Creativity Prize. Actively performing in South Korea, the band also made their successful European debut at the Jazz Korea Festival hosted by the Korean Cultural Centre in Germany in 2017. Moreover, Sunjae Lee has recently released his first studio album Entropy recorded with the renowned jazz trumpeter Peter Evans.
Jazz guitarist Rafał Sarnecki is one of the most active jazz musicians in Poland, pursuing his musical career in the home city of jazz, New York. As a leader of his own projects, Rafał has toured China, South Korea, Malaysia, Chile, Israel, the East and West coasts of the US and many European countries. He has shared the stage with many top names from the US jazz scene including Ben Wendel, Ingrid Jensen, Alex Sipiagin, Joel Frahm and Gary Thomas to list a few.
