In 2009, the editors praised the achievements of the Moomoo studio in Lodz, and a year later NArchitekTura from Krakow was commended. After four years hiatus, another Polish architect has been distinguished. In June this year, another studio from Krakow appeared on the magazine's Architects Directory 2014 list. Among the architectural studios representing seventeen different nations on 4 different continents, the work of BXB Studio was appreciated.
The studio was founded in 2009 by Bogusław Barnaś, a graduate of Krakow Polytechnic and the Fachhochschule Muenster in Germany after working for Norman Foster in the British office Make Architects and Ingarden & Ewy Architekts in Krakow. Barnaś himself says that he is interested in interdisciplinarity: he designs both family homes and urban plans, and he creates both theoretical and technical projects. In the past few years, he has prepared several visions of family homes conceived from deep analysis of local traditions, the geography of the area, the quality of the craftmanship and the latest in technical innovations.
It’s this ability to link modern shapes with local customs and architectural forms that the editors of Wallpaper appreciated and earned Barnaś his place on the list of the most talented young designers. As underlined in the report, Barnaś is able to use tradition and craftsmanship to create an expressive modern building. BXB Studio’s projects are described as “combining precision, aesthetics and economics together with the idea of sustainable development”.
For the first time this year, studios mentioned in Architects Directory are not only recognised in Wallpaper, but will also shown at an exhibition between 12th and 30th June at 2 Pancras Square, near King’s Cross, London. Characteristic works of the laureates are reworked as illustrations, photographs and computer generated images combined together by Richard Kolker, a well known artist and designer. The exhibition takes places within the London Architecture Festival.
