Directed by Zbigniew Brzoza, Studio Theatre in Warsaw, January 2002.
This production of Peter Shaffer's AMADEUS at Warsaw's Studio Theatre is the work of director Zbigniew Brzoza. The play itself gained tremendous popularity through Milos Forman's Oscar-winning film version, though it had earlier received a Best Play Tony Award in 1980. One year later AMADEUS arrived in Poland, premiering at Warsaw's Na Woli Theatre as directed by Roman Polański. Polański cast himself in the title role to a Salieri portrayed by legendary Polish actor Tadeusz Łomnicki.
In Brzoza's staging the jealous composer and tormentor of Mozart (Andrzej Mastalerz) is played by Zbigniew Zapasiewicz. This is not the actor's first time in this role; Zapasiewicz portrayed Salieri in a 1993 television version of AMADEUS directed by Maciej Wojtyszko with Zbigniew Zamachowski as Mozart.
