Shostakovich's Sixth Symphony and Penderecki's Threnody to the Victims of Hiroshima are works the British audience knows very well. Yet they have not been given a chance to listen to Adagio for Strings and Winterreise, a concerto for horn by Penderecki, but will for the first time thanks to the Adam Mickiewicz Institute's Polska Music programme.

The Great Theatre in Ephesus, Turkey, hosts the 28th Izmir International Music Festival between 14 June - 3 September, 2014. Krzysztof Penderecki with Sinfonia Varsovia and the Turkish pianist Hüseyin Sermet will perform at the opening concert on 14 June.

The great Polish composer premieres premieres his latest piece at the National Philharmonic in Warsaw. The Sea of Dreams Rushed Over Me - Songs of Reflection and Nostalgia for soprano, mezzosoprano, baritone, choir and orchestra is a sixty minute long composition set to the texts of major Polish poets, including Cyprian Kamil Norwid, Zbigniew Herbert.
