Tadeusz Różewicz, one of the most acclaimed Polish contemporary poets, novelist, playwright and essayist, died on April 24 in Wrocław.
The nomination of Mother Departs for the People’s Book Prize marks the first time that a finalist is a translation from a foreign language.
The book assembles photographs from the family album, some of his own poems, which are dedicated to his mother, a sketch with memories by the author's brother, Stanisław Różewicz, fragments of the author's diary and his mother's memoirs.
