Following their very successful London debut in 2010 at the Southbank Centre Polish contemporary folk band Zakopower are returning to the British Isles with an extended tour
Drawing their name from the highlander capital of Poland, Zakopane, Zakopower has made a name for itself at home for their successful blend of folk music and contemporary sounds. They've won stacks of awards at festivals and the prestigious Fryderyk award from the Polish Music Academy. All their studio albums have achieved platinum status. Now they are off to conquer the rest of Europe, with earlier concerts in Italy, India, Hungary, Croatia, Germany and Hungary. They represented Poland at the EXPO 2010 in Shanghai and at Nigel Kennedy's Polish weekend in London. At the event Kennedy expressed his excitement about the band and said, "All my friends have gone crazy about Zakopower. Everybody’s bought their album!"
Founded by Sebastian Karpiel-Bułecka, the band's violinist and vocalist, the band defies classification as it takes the upbeat, traditional sounds of the Podhale region and blends it with rock, jazz, punk and world music, marrying the fiddle with the electric guitar. The remaining members of the band are Wojciech Topa, Bartek Kudasik, Józef Chyc-Scepon, Piotr Rychlec, Tomasz Krawczyk, Michał Trąbski and Łukasz Moskal.
