Podsumowanie
The Hour-Glass Sanatoriumhas made its mark on the world in both word and image, as a book by Bruno Schulz, Wojciech Jerzy Has and Gustaw Holoubka's cinematic adaptation. Wojciech Plewiński's marvellous photographs from the set of the film in 1972 bring yet another dimension to the story
Content
The film, which won the Jury Prize at the 1973 Cannes Film Festival, recreated the poetic vision of the Schulzian village built upon the quarries outside of Kraków and the sanatorium looming above. Plewiński's black-and-white photographs capture the aura of that place out of time, recording a lost Jewish village - the fruit of so many brilliant imaginations.
Wojciech Plewiński (born 1928) specialised in photography style that documented a specific time and place, person or work. His portfolio of work covers a spectrum of subjects - including film, theatre, literature - through a balanced, subtle approach to form and composition. The most striking works by the award-winning photographer will be compiled into an album published by FOTO GRAF, in bookshops at the end of April.
The show opens April 1, 2011 at 19:30 and runs until May 14, 2011. The opening event features a screening of Has' The Hour-Glass Sanatorium (also known as The Sandglass) at 20:00.
