Featuring breathtaking vistas and a strong cast, including Colin Farrell and Ed Harris, it is said to be one of the most visually stunning films of the year.
Peter Weir's first film since 2003's Master and Commander hovers between true-life tale and mythic odyssey. However, mythic is also the very book on which the film's plot is based as doubts over the book's veracity forced Weir to use fictionalised characters for his screen retelling. It seems, the author of the 1955 memoir used the story of another Gulag prisoner Witold Gliński. The real story behind the book remains still obscure.
The Polish premiere of the film is planned for April 8, 2011.
