A documentary portraying the lives four dancers, foreigners living in Brussels that inspires them to physically and emotionally express their feelings, Project R features Polish dancer Natalia Pieczuro
A multidisciplinary project bringing together dance, theatre and film, Project R was initiated by the Israeli duet Or Martin and Oran Nahum. Four dancers performing their feelings on the fate of dancers living and working abroad and their corporal reflections on the relation between broadcast images and reality performed on the scene.
Martin and Nahum ask themselves the following questions:
Do estrangement and loneliness depend on how far you are from home? Perhaps loneliness is even stronger in the most familiar places. What happens as we move farther away from our home? I have been observing the strong trend of migration, and a world that is becoming more universal. What is the significance of words such as religion, nationality and geographic location? Many artists travel the world, looking for work, contact and, most of all, for meaning. A new kind of modern gypsies, with no clear identity and yet identical to one another in certain ways.
The two artists from Or & Oran Dance Theatre Company recorded documentary footage of various artists who chose to emmigrate to Brussels. They then brought these recordings to the studio, where they became the starting point of physical and emotional explorations. Two layers of consciousness appear side by side on the stage. A speaking exterior - the personal reality which has been filmed is screened as part of the performance accomapanying an exposed interior of the physical reality of stage movement.
Polish Natalia Pieczuro participates in this international project alongside Johann Fourriere (France), Bára Sigfúsdóttir (Iceland), and Stav Yeini (Israel).
The piece is scheduled to be shown in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem in the end of July, following which it will travel to the Düsseldorf Tanzmesse NRW and the Dance Centrum Jette festival in Brussels.
