Muzeum Narodowe in Szczecin opened a new constant exhibition "The Golden Age of Pomerania. The Art at the Court of Pomeranian Dukes in 16th and 17th Centuries" in September 2011.
The exhibition is a part of a project co-organized with Pommersches Landesmuseum Greifswald, co-financed within Interreg IV A project.
The aim of the exhibition is to present culture and art related to the Pomeranian Dukes’ court in second half of 16th and first third of 17th centuries, that is in the period of its particular development. The relics, although relatively not numerous, are the evidence of superb importance of the court as a late renaissance artistic and cultural centre.
Muzeum Narodowe w Szczecinie owns the largest existing collection connected with the mecenate of Gryfits dynasty. It makes it possible to show the peculiarity of the Pomeranian court as an artistic centre and to present its most important characters: dukes, artists and scientists. The most precious works on display are: The Portrait of Philip I 1541, by Lucas Cranach Jr. and a group of late renaissance jewels including famous Franz’s I aigrette with diamonds.
The particular emphasis has been put on the educatory and popularizing aspect of the exhibition. There are two versions of audioguide planned, for adults and youth (in Polish, German and English).
Organiser: The National Museum in Szczecin
This event is part of the Attention Culture! Cultural Programme of the 2011 Polish EU Presidency.
