HE meets HER in a sandbox. They converse, argue, share and refuse to share. Their fear of growing up and being vulnerable makes is what makes them relatable, "the fear of letting someone into «our territory», into our life is a unviersal fear that accompanies all of us, and which, slowly, is becoming an obession of our era", they claim.
Whether it's in Polish or French, Michał Walczak's play Piaskownica / The Sandbox or Le bac a Sable, is about young people's choices between freedom and love, independence and the community and deciding what matters most.
Compagnie du Soir, a French theatre group performs the Polish director's critically acclaimed play. Staged by Ewa Rucińska at the Parisian Manufacture des Abbesses, Bac a Sable premieres on the 4th of December and runs until the 28th of December.
Piaskownica / Le Bac a Sable is Michał Walczak's debut play which premiered in 2002. Performed to critic acclaim around Poland, in the Czech Republic, Germany and Slovakia, altogether is was staged 16 times between 2002 and 2008. Since the successful first, the Pole has brought out a number of other plays (Journey to the Inside of the Room, The Card-index, The Last Daddy, The Sad Princess among others) which can be found in English, German, Lithunian, Italian, Hungarian, Serbian, Latvian, Czech and Slovak.
The French theatre group Compagnie du Soir is known for staging translated plays that are less known to the French public - those of contemporary theatre directors from Eastern and Central Eastern Europe. Their earlier staging was of Van Viripaev's Illusions.
