Polish composer and producer Jimek (Radzimir Dębski) has won pop star Beyoncé's worldwide competition for the best remix of songs from her 2011 album End of Time
The international pop vocalist from Texas and her panel of judges chose Jimek's remix out of 3,000 other entries from around the world for her album The Remix which comes out on the 24th of April.
Radzimir Dębski is a composer and producer born in Warsaw and currently based in Los Angeles. He is the son of the well-known Polish composer Krzesimir Dębski and singer Anna Jurksztowicz. He holds a degree in Composition from the Chopin Music Academy in Warsaw and he has gone on to study Film Scoring and Orchestration at UCLA. He has made scores for television programmes, film and theatre. In 2007 he contributed to the Motion Trio album Metropolis on the track Libertyn. Currently he is working on a solo album.
For his contemporary production work he goes by the nomer Jimek. His track End of Time Jimek Remix is one of 6 tracks on The Remix. In addition to being featured on the album he receives a cash prize of $4,000.
The competition began in early February, with hopefuls uploading their entries onto SoundCloud, a leading social sound platform with over 12 million registered users. Users from 25 countries submitted entries, including Australia, Brazil, Canada,China, Finland, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Ireland, Korea, Mexico, New Zealand, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, the UK and the US.By the end of the competition, all the stems were downloaded 351,000 times and 1.65 million fans listened to at least two mixes.
Initial voting by fans, DJs and remixers through the SoundCloud community narrowed down the Top 50 entries. All eligible entries were voted on the basis of originality, creativity and musicality. The final winner was selected by an international panel of judges, including Beyoncé, British musician Isabella Summers of Florence & The Machine, Dutch music producer and DJ Afrojack, the duo DJ and producing team from Poland, WAWA, New York DJ Jus-Ske and Oscar-winning producer and composer Giorgio Moroder.
Polish DJs and producers have begun making a serious foray into the global music industry, particularly in the electronic and house music genres. WAWA, the house duo from Warsaw which NWE called the best Polish DJs by NWE two years in a row and whose remixes regularly appear on major albums and mixtapes, also have a version of End of Time on Beyoncé's The Remix album, simply called End of Time WAWA Extended. Last month top producer Diplo - who has also produced several tracks for Beyoncé - released the first Polish track on his own Mad Decent/Jeffree's label. The song Murfs! was produced by Metsi, a DJ and producer from Gostynin, Poland.
