Polish season in Korea, the first so extensive programme promoting our culture in this country was organized by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, was held last October. Polish performances, concerts and films were presented at the key festivals, fairs and other cultural events, accompanied by a number of lectures, workshops and panel discussions. Some of the most prominent Polish artists, including Agnieszka Holland, Krzysztof Zanussi and Tomasz Stanko visited Korea to participate in these events.
The programme began in September with a special presentation of Polish documentary films, titled "Polish Docs Special", at the DMZ Docs Festival in the Korean Demilitarized Zone. In early October, Polish cinema was also present at one of the most important film festivals in Asia - Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), where an extensive presentation of Polish films entitled "Poland in Close-Up" was held, with the participation of famous Polish directors - Agnieszka Holland, Krzysztof Zanussi and Dorota Kedzierzawska. At the same time, one of the most prestigious cultural events in Korea - Seoul Performing Arts Festival (SPAF) and PAMS (Performing Arts Market in Seoul) hosted performances by Polish theatres, accompanied by workshops carried out by a theatre director Krzysztof Garbaczewski. Polish contemporary dance performed by the Dada von Bzdülöw Theatre was presented at the SIDance Festival in Seoul. Polish music was also present in Korea - Tomasz Stanko Quartet, among other Polish musicians, played at the Jarasum International Jazz Festival. Apart from that, artists of the club scene - a Polish-British duo KDMS and Pompon DJs - performed in Seoul's clubs.
