Cairo International Film Critics Week is one of the independent sections at the 37th Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF), the biggest and the oldest film festival in Egypt. The festival is organised by the Egyptian Film Critics Association. During this second edition of the Cairo International Film Critics Week, there will be as many as seven Polish films screened.
Two pictures will compete in the competition of the Cairo International Film Critics Week. The competition is for debuts or second films. The Polish films in the competition are the comedy Journey to Rome by Tomasz Mielnik and The Red Spider by Marcin Koszałka, the story of a serial killer who lived in Kraków during the 1960s. These films will compete in two categories: Best Film and Best Actor.
Cairo International Film Critics Week will also include five classic pearls of Polish cinema. The audience will be given the chance to watch Canal and The Promised Land by Andrzej Wajda, Blind Chance by Krzysztof Kieślowski, The Debt by Krzysztof Krauze, and In Darkness by Agnieszka Holland. Łukasz Maciejewski, a renowned film critic will be the festival's guest.
Cairo International Film Critics Week will be held at the Cairo Opera House, one of the most beautiful post-modern buildings in Cairo. The originator and initiator of the Polish film programme is Tomasz Kania.
