Roman Polański, accompanied by his wife Emmanuelle Seigner, will be among the guests of honour at the upcoming event. He will introduce a special screening of his latest film Venus in Fur and will give a talk about the film to the participants of the Summer Filmmakers' Academy and the public. The Polish director will also accept a special award from the festival.
Mother Earth by Piotr Złotorowicz at Locarno Festival
Mother Earth will be screened as one of the films in the Pardi di domani shorts competition. Released by Łódź Film Academy, the film is a psychological drama imbued with mystical elements. Złotorowicz drew from the mythology of the Polish countryside to show a conflict between father and son.Pardi di domani focuses on young filmmakers and presents pictures released by film students and independent artists who are still waiting for their feature debut. The jury is headed by Rutger Hauer and its members are Helvécio Marins Jr., Lois Patiño, Myroslav Slaboshpytskiy and Nicole Vögele. 15 Corners of the World and Arizona in My Head in Locarno.
Zuzanna Solakiewicz’s 15 Corners of the World, a documentary telling the story of Eugeniusz Rudnik, a composer, visionary and focal member of Polish Radio’s Experimental Studio, will be presented within the Locarno Critic’s Week section. Eugeniusz Rudnik revolutionized the idea of music itself with just a pair of scissors and a magnetic tape. He is one of the pioneers of electro-acoustic music in Poland. Rudnik knew how to discover ‘the exceptional’ in unwanted sounds, which, considered foul material, would be rejected by most sound engineers. Yet Rudnik knew how to get through to people in times when studio equipment was not far off from that of a scientific laboratory.

Matthias Huser’s They Chased Me Through Arizona, released in cooperation with Krzysztof Kiersznowski and Eryk Lubos is among 14 films in the Cineasti del presente competition. The competition’s jury is composed of Ossama Mohammed, Thierry Jobin, Don McKellar, Clémence Poésy and Mary Stephen.
The 67th edition of Locarno International Film Festival will run from August 6 until August 16.
