Polish actor Jerzy Stuhr celebrates his 65th birthday with the promise that he'll return to the stage in the coming months in spite of a year-long break resulting from a recent battle with cancer
The actor is notable in Poland for his diverse talents as an accomplished movie, theatre, and TV actor, combining comedic roles, such as the Jerzy Machulski's brilliant 1984 film Sexmission set in a future where women rule the world after deeming men expandable or 1987's Kingsajz 1987, a story of a dwarf scientist's adventures in the world of "normal people".
In the late 70's Stuhr became one of the leading actors starring in the films of 'moral anxiety' (pol. 'kino moralnego niepokoju') made by such directors as Krzysztof Kieślowski, Agnieszka Holland and Krzysztof Zanussi. These were films concerned for the most part with the idealistic struggle of young people fighting the corrupt Communist system against the backdrop of little Polish towns. He went on to star in several Krzysztof Kieślowski's films, including the The Scar (Blizna, 1976), Camera Buff (Amator, 1979), Part 10 of The Decalogue series (1988) and White, part of the Three Colors trilogy.
Stuhr is also well known as a theatre actor. In September 2012 he returns to the stage to celebrate more than 40 years in the theatre.
