At this year's fair, the Polish national Book Institute (Instytut Książki) will be appearing with its own booth for the first time, presenting a broad literary catalog to Turkish publishers and readers between 8 – 11 November 2014.
Various other publications by the Book Institute will accompany the selection. Catalogs covering New Books from Poland and Modern Classics will highlight interesting and important titles worth translating.
A Special Catalog For Turkish Interest
A Turkish publication section prepared in particular for the occasion under the title, Polonya’ dan kitaplar (Books from Poland), will include two major texts: one on Polish-Turkish cultural relations, written by Polish journalist Witold Szabłowski, and the other on sketches regarding Polish literature by author and ciritic Justyna Sobolewska.
Meeting With Author Janusz Głowacki – Good Night Dżerzi
These are to be accompanied by a presentation of Janusz Głowacki's novel Good Night, Dżerzi (Good Night Jerzi, Yapı Kredi, translation: Neşe Yüce), published in Turkish earlier this year, as well as a brief description of some books recently published, and those soon-to-be published.
On the occasion of his book's publication, Janusz Głowacki will attend the fair as a guest speaker, and meet with booklovers on 16 November 2014, at 2:15 p.m. on the fair grounds. Głowacki was recognized as Warsaw's Author of the Year in 2011.
In it’s 33rd anniversary this year, the Istanbul International Book Fair has attracted enormous crowds around the world for years, and is surely Turkey's major literary and publishing event. The organizer of the Polish appearance at this year’s fair is the Book Institute; the project has been financed with funds from the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
The event is organized as part of the cultural program marking the 600th anniversary of Polish-Turkish diplomatic relations in 2014.
