Through 15 January 2015, Pera Museum in Istanbul will host 188 pieces of works of art that represent the Orientalist trend in Polish painting, drawing and graphic arts. The exhibition features works by Polish artists from the 17th century until the end of the 19th century. These works perfectly show how Polish artists, many of whom travelled to the East, were inspired and influenced by Eastern cultural traditions. The selection on view covers topics related to the Ottoman lands of modern day Turkey, and to a lesser extent, North Africa.
The opening day began with a press conference at the museum led by Özalp Birol, the General Manager of Suna and İnan Kıraç Foundation. The programme featured introductory talks by distinguished guests from Poland: Minister of Culture and National Heritage Professor Małgorzata Omilanowska, Consul General Grzegorz Michalski, director deputy of the Warsaw National Museum Piotr Rypson and the curator of the exhibition Professor Tadeusz Majda. After the inaugural talks, the Minister invited the journalists on a trip through the exhibition during which she explained the history of selected works. The guided tour was followed by numerous interviews by both Turkish and Polish television, radio and press.
