The 11th edition of the festival will start with an opening concert. This year, trumpet player Maciej Fortuna has been invited as coordinator and art director for the international ensemble of musicians who will open the festival with the Concert for Europe.
The concert is organised by the Isola delle Storie Society with the support of the following institutions: Enel. Istituto Polacco di Roma, Goethe-Institut, British Council, Istituto Romeno di Cultura e Ricerca Umanistica di Venezia, and Forum Austriaco di Cultura Roma – all members of the EUNIC network.
The international ensemble led by the Polish trumpeter is comprised of:
Angelika Niescier (Germany) – saxophone; Fraser Fifield (UK) - saxophone, flute, pipes; Christian Wendt (Austria) – bass; Eugen Gondi (Romania) – drums and Filomena Campus (Sardinia) on vocals.
Each of the musicians will contribute their own idiosyncratic sound and elements of their cultural heritage during a week-long residence before the premiere. The audience will hear the results of these efforts in the composition the artists have prepared especially for the occasion.
European literary figures from England, Germany, Austria, Italy, Romania and Poland from will also be present at the Gavoi Festival.
