Laura Pawela, "Ruins" (press materials)
In her latest exhibition, Laura Pawela presents a winding, ruined vision of Warsaw
In "Past Present Continuous", the artist builds her urban landscape from elements that once were full of life and now lay abandoned and forgotten. This imagined view of the city lies in an age beyond time, bringing together Warsaw's various faces over many decades. The past is layered upon itself, remaining mysterious as it's never fully explained. Ultimately, what remains is a vague recognition of bits and pieces that bring us fully back into the present. The deeper the viewer attempts to delve into this ephemeral past, the more elusive it becomes.
This is
Laura Pawela's second show in cooperation with the appendix2 gallery and her first in the newly-opened gallery space at ul. Foksal 11, run by the Propaganda Foundation.
The exhibition's essential question treats the significance of ruins - how they come about and how quickly they fade.
The show runs between January 16 - February 4, 2011 at Foksal 11, nr. 1.
