Not only to oppose mainstream commercial values but with an abrasive and humourous edge the exhibition shows an innovative style - combining sculpture, painting and drawing. The Central Saint Martins in London presents an exhibition of works by Konstanty Czartoryski as part of the final Degree Show of the MA Fine Art Exhibition
The exhibition's programme is one 'driven by a dynamic and self-sustaining group of MA students', 'keenly aware of the historical significance of the this moment', who have reveled in the possibilities thrown up by the past and future choices the institution has made: very often, it does not disappoint.
Konstanty Czartoryski showcases four pieces combining sculpture, painting and drawing. Three painting-like pieces made of cut-out layers of picture planes hanging on the walls and one free standing sculpture supported by a screwed-on kitchen stool. Czartoryski combines bright luminous colours and rough black and white drawings, the relationship between precision and roughness is a constant in this series. The large scale of the pieces and the way pictures are composed employs a clumsiness that is not unintentional. The iconography works within the awkward space between naivety and irony.
Konstanty Czartoryski is also part of a collaborative video installation project with co-student, Beth Fox. It is a humourous performance intended to highlight the absurdity and pomposity of artistic discourse. Czartoryski has been selected to exhibit in a group show of Saint Martin's students which will be held in the West of Ireland later this year.
This is the last show in the famous building in Charring Cross.
