Kapela ze Wsi Warszawa / Warsaw Village Band was established in 1997 and quickly became one of the most important representatives of Europe’s ethnic music scene. The band has often been awarded and distinguished, among others with a BBC Radio 3 prize for World Music in the Newcomer category (in 2004), three Fryderyk awards and the Quarterly German Record Critics' Award.
The musicians will present themselves in the Dock des Suds cultural centre along with 45 other representatives of 5 continents. On the second day of the festival (which will take placed from 26th to 28th March, 2015) they band will perform pieces from their newest album Święto Słońca / Sun Celebration, which features the contribution of Spanish vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Mercedes Peón. She will accompany the band during their performance in Marseille.
The Polish band's performance at Babel Med is a part of the Poland – First to Folk! programme organised by the Transetnika association. During the festival, the association will also promote a Polish music medley which will be distributed among representatives of the music industry. The medley features compositions of artists such as: R.U.T.A., Żywiołak, Kroke, Chłopcy Kontra Basia, Sutari, Alte Zachen, Kwadrofonik.
Babel Med is not simply a music festival, it’s also a platform which enables the exchange of the thoughts and opinions of the phonographic industry representatives.
This event attracts about 12 000 listeners and over 2000 industry representatives: festival directors, managers of event agencies, publishers and journalists.
– said Mateusz Dobrowolski, chairman of Transetnika.
The organisers have arranged concerts, meetings, conferences, workshops and music fairs for 11 years now. Transetnika will host a stand which will present ethnic music of the Visegrád Group members (the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia).
