Kamil Kuskowski from the series "Blessing in Disguise / Luck in Misfortune"
The latest multimedia project by artist Kamil Kuskowski attempts to define the phenomenon of superstition through paintings, videos, objects and installations
"The exhibition is about prejudice and superstition in which we believe and which have impact on our lives, in relation to the eponymous aspects of luck and misfortune", says Kuskowski.
The "Blessing in Disguise" project debuts in the Bielska BWA Gallery as part of the series Laureates of the 'Bielska Autumn' competition organised by the Bielska BWA Gallery. Kamil Kuskowski recieved the Grand Prix -an Award from the Minister of Culture and National Heritage at the 39th Painting Biennial "Bielska Autumn 2009"for two paintings from his series "Anti-Semitism Repressed": "Painting V" and "Painting VI".
Kamil Kuskowski was born in 1973 in Zakopane. In 1992 he graduated the Antoni Kenar State High School of Visual Arts. Through 1995-2000 he studied at the Władysław Strzemiński Academy of Fine Arts in the Department of Textiles and Clothing in Łódz. In 2000, Kuskowski recieved his diploma in the Textile Art Studio of Professor Aleksandra Mańczak and Professor Andrzej Gieraga's Studio of Painting and Drawing. In 2005 he attained a doctoral degree and in 2008 is PhD. Between 1999-2011 the artist worked at the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź. Since 2010 he has been holding the position as Associate Professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Szczecin, where he leads the Audiovisual Studio in the New Media Department. He is head of Zona Sztuka Aktualnej Gallery in Łódź and Szczecin. He works in the fields of painting, installations and video art. Kuskowski collaborates with the Piekary Gallery in Poznań and m2 Gallery in Warsaw.
The exhibition opens on the 3rd of September at 18:00 and runs through the 9th of October 2011 (upper hall).
