Kicking off with a performance by Horny Trees, the group features Paweł Szamburski on a clarinet made of Ebony and exotic wood, Maciej Trifonidis Bielawski on a bass made from Maple, Walnut, Ebony and Bubinga, and Hubert Zemler on percussion equipment made from Maple. Their interest in music merges with dendrochronology and they perform on wooden instruments in order to conduct experiments in music inspired by the forest and the sounds of landscapes.
The Austrian audience will also have the opportunity to witness Hera. A group founded by clarinetist and composer Wacław Zimpel, it includes Paweł Postaremczak on tenor saxophone, Ksawer Wojciński on bass and Paweł Szpura on percussion. Together they create narrative music that relates to European traditions involving sacred art while delving into African or Indian folk influences.
A concert by Daktari will leave the Polish Jazz Festival with notes of blended klezmer rock and Polish “yass” from the 80’s. Together, Olgierd Dokalski on trumpet, Mateusz Franczak on saxophone, Miron Grzegorkiewicz on guitar, Maciej Szczepański on bass and Robert Alabrudziński on percussion will uphold the international reputation of Polish jazz as accessible, innovative and relevant.
Accompanying the festival will be an exhibition of selected posters by renowned Polish artist Marek Wajda which were provided at the request of the Polish Institute in Vienna.
