Elżbieta Lempp's 44 black-and-white photographs provide a very personal record of daily life at the turn of the century - across the world
The photographs in the exhibition are taken between the years 1984 to 2009. The artist's series comprises photos from America (Chapel Hill, New York, Washington), Europe (Paris, Prague, Krakow, Berlin) and a single photograph from Asia (Angkor Wat). Each photograph is accompanied by a short description that gives some clues as to the time and place it was captured: "The same since time immemorial: The Sky above Paris, Under the Roofs of Paris, Paris in Love" or "A profile of quality. The Mermaid… Poland, Good Luck".
Elżbieta Lempp has been taking photographs since the 1980s. She creates mostly black-and-white portraits of artists, especially writers - she devoted a whole album to them, titled Krajobrazy literackie. Fotografia 1985-2007 / Literary Landscapes. Photography 1985-2007 (with an afterword by Marek Bieńczyk, published by Universitas 2009). She has been collaborating with numerous publishing houses and Culture.pl web portal. Her photographs can be found in the collections of the National Museum in Wroclaw and the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, and in private collections as well.
