The holiday concert promises to be a monumental event, the performance of the legendary artist set off by the spectacular interiors of the church and its acoustics. Chick Corea performs a solo repertoire of classic jazz compositions combined with Christmas songs. Known for his rich style inspired by various strains of classical, jazz, rock, fusion and Latin music, Corea is one of the foremost jazz musicans in the world. He is said to have been inspired by the works of the likes of Beethoven, Charlie Parker and Miles Davis in equal measure.
The concert takes place at the St. John the Baptist Cathedral on December 27, 2010 at 20:00. The cathedral is one of the oldest in Warsaw, originally built in the 14th Century in the Mazovian Gothic style. It was connected to the city's Royal Castle - in what is today the Old Town district - by an underground corridor. It was completely demolished by the Nazis during WWII and rebuilt after the war according to the illustrations of the original church. It is one of Warsaw's major landmarks and is listed on the UNESCO list of sites of cultural significance.
