Organisers of the leading annual award for translations of Polish prose and literature in English annouce the 6th edition of the contest. Candidates can be nominated by both private persons and institutions in Poland and abroad until the 15th of March via the internet
The Found in Translation Award is administered by the Book Institute, the Polish Cultural Institute in London, the Polish Cultural Institute in New York and W.A.B. Publishing House in Warsaw (part of Grupa Wydawnicza Foksal) and it is presented annually to the best transcriptions of Polish prose and poetry into English published as a book in the previous calendar year. The laureate of the prize is honoured with a three-month placement in Krakow, with accommodation, a grant of 2,000 PLN per month, a return airline ticket to Krakow funded by the Polish Book Institute and a financial award of 10,000 PLN funded by the W.A.B. Publishing House.
Nominations should be emailed to office(at)bookinstitute.pl with the subject-heading FOUND IN TRANSLATION. The nomination must include the book title, the name of the author, the name of the translator, the publisher, and the reasons for the nomination.
Previous laureates of the award include Joanna Trzeciak for her translation of Tadeusz Różewicz’s Sobbing Superpower / Spłakane mocarstwo, Bill Johnston, who was honoured for his transcription of Różewicz’s verses in the New Poems collection, Antonia Lloyd-Jones for English version of Paweł Huelle’s The Last Supper / Ostatnia wieczerza, Danuta Borchardt for Witold Gombrowicz’s Pornography and Clare Cavanagh and Stanisław Barańczak for their work on a collection of poems by Wisława Szymborska entitled Here / Tutaj.
