The Big Book Festival is an international literary festival organized in Warsaw since 2013. This year it will be held on 14th and 15th June. It was created by the Kultura nie boli (Culture is Painless) Foundation, which was jointly established by manager Anna Król and writer Paulina Wilk.
The motto of the second edition of the Big Book Festival is Back to Front! – for two days, the organizers intend to mix past with future, and contrast old-fashioned values with modernity and yesterday’s topics with tomorrow's concepts.
Many international authors have confirmed their participation. There are authors from a multitude of different countries and walks of life. Writers and poets, as well as scientists, musicians, scholars, actors, politicians, and journalists, amongst others, will take part in the discussions, literary walks, public readings, and virtual meetings which make up the festival.
In this year the participant will have a chance to meet Karl Ove Knausgår (Norway), Jonas Gardell (Sweden), Salwa an-Nu’ajmi (Syria), Timur Vermes (Germany), Gavin Extence (U.K.), Steven Poole (U.K.), Shana Penn (USA), Tomas Sedlacek (Czech Rep.), Katarzyna Bonda (Poland), Wojciech Jagielski (Poland), among others.
The event is supported by a number of partners, including the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the National Culture Centre, the city of Warsaw, the Swedish Embassy, Polish Institute in Stockholm, the Urban Culture Institute, and many more.
Further information and the programme are available at the official Big Book Festival website.
