The period music performance group joins acclaimed Swedish recorder player Dan Laurin in London
Dan Laurin and Arte dei Suonatori perform in London together for the first time. They will be showcasing two Polish concerts by German Baroque composer Georg Philip Telemann (1681-1767), who composed the pieces shortly after his stay in Kraków during the first decade of the eighteenth century. Telemann, arguably the most prolific writer amongst his contemporaries (who included Johann Sebastian Bach and George Friderick Handel), composed music informed by French, Italian and Polish national styles. His music is recognised as the bridge between late Baroque and early Classical music styles. The Arte dei Suonatori group will also perform one of Telemann's most known works- namely, his Concert for Flute in F major.
In addition to Telemann, the concert will feature concertos by Antonio Vivaldi, including two pieces from the 'Four Seasons', performed on recorders. The Vivaldi pieces, in an arrangement by Dan Laurin, were recorded by the group in 2006. Arte dei Suonatori was founded in 1993 by violinists Ewa and Aureliusz Goliński, and is one of the most interesting Polish groups specialising in baroque and classical music styles. The group consists of the best young Polish musicians playing on old instruments.
During the first few years of its existence the group strove to develop artistically and achieved the position of one of the most interesting Polish musical formations specialising in baroque and classical music. At present, the orchestra is international in character. Its permanent members, in addition to Polish artists, include performers from Germany, England, Holland, Japan, France, Finland, Sweden and Denmark. Thanks to continuous efforts and artistic contacts with the most accomplished European, American and Japanese musicians, the orchestra has developed its own, individual style, characterised by a beautiful sound, as well as deep expression and ease in adopting different musical styles and aesthetic idioms. Critics and audiences alike have praised Arte dei Suonatori, as one of the most unique phenomenons on the European music scene of the last few years.
The Arte dei Suonatori concert, featuring Dana Laurina, will run as part of the Spitalfields Festival on June 13, 2011 (7:30pm) in London's Christ Church Spitalfields. The event is co-organised by the Polish Institute in London.
