Marzena Wieczorek during rehearsal / photography: Juliusz Osterwa Theatre
Andrzej Pieczyński directs a moving solo performance written by Anna Burzyńska, with Marzena Wieczorek telling the painful story through the use of props and expressionAt an audition, the protagonist - an actor - reveals a deep-seated family tragedy. Molested by his father in his childhood, is he speaking about his real experiences, or is he just merely trying to raise the jury's interest with his story?
As Marian relays his experiences before the audience, the memories fill him with both zeal and aggression - bringing him to give way to the scream that has been lying in wait within him for decades. Molested as a child, he swore himself to vengeance as a teen but a stroke killed his father before he could. After the funeral, Marian prostitutes himself in the train station toilet. Then he brings his angst to the stage, trying out for sitcoms and proving no one can howl as loud as he can.
Julita Grodek for Agencja Dramatu i Teatru / Drama and Theatre Agency writes:
It is also the voice of all those who cannot let out their scream of hurt. Scream of truth. A doll becomes a symbol for this scream in the performance. With the doll's help, Marzena Wieczorek tells the story of a little boy, with whom Daddy used to play Wizard. Mommy told the boy to be good, or else Daddy would go away. Sister was happy that it wasn't her that Daddy played his magic with.
